WED federal holiday banner image 09052021.png

August 26th is the anniversary of women in the United States winning the constitutional right to vote in 1920. In 1973, Congress recognized this important historic date by declaring it as Women’s Equality Day.

The National Women’s History Alliance is working with partners (like MCNOW) in a campaign to advocate for even greater acknowledgement of the significance of Women’s Equality Day and the observance of it as a national day of celebration, in order to build momentum and bipartisan support for making it the next federal holiday. What you can do to help:

Americans have waited five years for the federal government to fulfill President Obama’s promise to
grace the front of the new $20 bill with a likeness of African American abolitionist and political activist
Harriet Tubman, a brave and resilient daughter of Maryland. The Montgomery County Democratic Party
is launching a nationwide petition to President Joe Biden to immediately take concrete steps to make this
promise a reality.
