Business and Professional Women of Maryland
Mother, Activist, American: Meet the Labor Heroine that History Forgot
Join BPW/MD as we screen a film about an incredible early labor activist and speak with the director who brought her story to light. Before Cesar Chavez and before Dolores Huerta, a half-Apache, half-Mexican mother of 12 picked up the only tool she had—her voice—and became an outspoken advocate for farm workers' rights. In an era when women were relegated to the background, Maria Moreno became the first female farm worker to be hired as a union organizer. Immediately afterward, we will host a Q&A discussion with the filmmaker, Laurie Coyle, to discuss her own journey and inspiration in showcasing Maria's story.
